Montreal Botanical Garden

The Montreal Botanical Garden is one of the world’s largest botanical gardens. The last time I was there it was as a child and I don’t remember much of the experience. I decided to go back for a visit. The place is enormous. I spent 3 hours walking around and didn’t even see everything there was to see. There are approximately 30 thematic gardens and 10 exhibition greenhouses.

The 2007 Cultural Rendezvous

This Montreal festival featured 150 Montreal artists, craftspeople, vendors, and restaurateurs. There were performances, concerts and demonstrations on three stages down by the Old Port. There were also many stalls offering various foods and wares. The event was over a weekend but I only caught the Saturday afternoon shows.

Montreal Museum Day

Every year, on the last Sunday in May, Montreal has a museum day. This year 27 museums opened their doors to the public at no charge. There was free parking at 3 locations and free shuttle service between all the museums. Thousands of Montrealers take advantage of this day to visit the museums. The two museums I spent most of the day at were the Fine Arts Museum and the Contemporary Museum. I realized that I preferred the Fine Arts museum over the modern displays at the Contemporary Museum. I guess I just don’t understand modern art.

Montreal Biodome

The Montreal Biodome is one of Montreal’s Nature Museums. It is a unique indoor museum that focuses on ecology and environmental science. Several beautiful ecosystems are recreated within the structure. They include Tropical Forest, Laurentian Forest, Saint-Laurence Marine, Arctic, and Antarctic ecosystems. Each ecosystem recreates a part of the world with both plant and animal life.

Photography – New hobby

I’ve always wanted to get into photography but it used to be an expensive hobby considering film and development costs. With the advent of digital photography and affordable digital cameras, this hobby is no longer out of reach. Since this was going to be my first real camera I researched it quite a bit and decided that an SLR would be too much for me right now considering I’m just starting out. I decided to go with a point-and-shoot camera with an anti-shake feature. Anyone who knows me well knows that this was the biggest selling feature for me since I don’t have steady hands. For those who are interested the camera is a Canon PowerShot S3 IS. I expect my pictures not to be great in the beginning but hopefully with time I will get better at this. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
